Psychology Services ~
Welcome to Mindfriendly Consulting; a small psychology practice in Sydney's city fringe, located in Pyrmont. As a Registered Counselling Psychologist, I bring over 20 years experience working in psychiatric settings, counsellor education and training, clinical supervision, and private consultation.
Your first session ~
Coming to speak with a Psychologist for the first time can be a little daunting: What's most important to discuss? Where do I start? What are the rules?
On your first session, we have an opportunity to take a look at what you hope to gain from sessions and what your expectations might be.
I will wish to ask some questions about the reason for seeking assistance, and will take some history of any mental health difficulties you have had in the past.
It's also your opportunity to get a sense of my practice and the way in which I work. If at the end of our first session there is agreement about the possible direction we could take - I will discuss with you the type of treatment that would be ideally used to assist you.

Evidence-based treatments that work ~
Over the course of my work, I have received training and extensive experience across a range of treatment approaches.
* Psychoanalytically-informed Psychotherapy: which explores and assists in understanding how past relationships and life experiences shape your responses to life's current demands. It is also a context where we gradually explore what might be experienced as a "new start" to "old challenges" within a trusting and consistent treatment atmosphere.
* Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT):
skill and capacity- building to assist in emotion management and problem solving. A structured approach to creating "a life worth living" for those who experience chaotic and difficult-to-manage emotions.
* Mindfulness-based stress management:
involving the practice and application of mindfulness to enhancing mental clarity, flexibility, and stamina. Learning how to turn "habitual reaction into effective response".
* Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
which explores the particular links between your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. CBT teaches a method to watching our thoughts, and developing greater flexibility in the way we interpret the world around us.
